  • You know that heart is the most important part of the body which is muscular organ in most animals, which pumps the blood through the blood vessels of the circulatory system.
  • In pumped blood oxygen and nutrients are present and it provides to the hole body, while carrying metabolic waste such as carbon dioxide to the lungs.
  • In humans, the heart size is approximately of closed fist and present between the lungs,in the middle compartment of chest.
  • In other mammals, humans and birds, the heart is divided into four chembers:upper left and right atria and lower left and right ventricles.
  • Generally the right atrium and ventricles are known as the the right heart and their left counterparts as the left heart. But fish have two chembers, an atrium and a ventricles, and reptiles have three chembers.

  • After pumping of the blood it goes to the pulmonary circulation, through the lungs where it receives oxygen and gives off carbon dioxide.
  • Oxygen containing blood goes through the left atrium, then it passes through the left ventricle and is pumped through the arota to the systemic circulation-where oxygen is used and metabolized to the carbon dioxide.
  • When heart is taking rest then beats are close to 72 beats per minute. Because of exercise it increase the rate but lower resting heart rate in the long term, and is good for heart health.

  • The human heart is between the middle mediastinum at the level of thoracic vertebrae T5-T8. A double-membraned sac called the pericardium surrounds the heart and which is attaches to the mediastinum.

  • The largest part of the heart is situated at the left side of chest(through occasionally it may be offset to the right) and is felt to be on the left because the left heart is stronger and larger, hence it pumps the blood to all body parts.
  • Because the heart is located between the lungs, the left lung is smaller than the right lung and has cardiac notch in it’s border to accommodate the heart.
  • The heart is cone shaped, located at upward position with it’s base and tapering down to the apex.
  • 250-350 grams (9-12oz) is the adult mass of the heart.
