Types of Muscles

Categories : Health

Hello friends! how are you? I hope all are still happy. Today we are discuss about ‘Types of Muscles’.

1.Cardiac Muscles :

Cardiac muscles is also called as myocardium, which in vertebrates, which one of three major muscle type found only in heart.

These muscles are only found in walls of cardiac muscles like smooth muscles and these are also in under control of autonomic nervous system.

Cardiac muscles and skeletal muscles similar to each other. And also these are in rectangular shape.

Cardiac muscle is striated muscle which is only present in the heart.

It is a single nucleated muscles , which are branched, and joint to another by insinuate discs which contain gap junctions of depolarization between between cells and desmoaomes to hold the fibres together when the heart contracts.

Cardiac muscle tissue works the heart pumping through involuntary moments. This features differentiate from cardiac muscles. These work does through the specialised cells which is called as pacemaker cells. These cells control the contraction of the heart.

Features of Cardiac muscles :

There are three features of cardiac muscle:
a) They control the contraction and relaxation of the heart.
b) Cardiac muscles are involuntary muscles that contract rapidly, but do not get fatigued.
c) The cells of cardiac muscles are cylindrical branched and uninucleate.

Four properties of Cardiac muscles :

Nodal fibres

  • Contractile
  • Rhythmicity
  • Conductivity
  • Contractility.

Four characteristics of Cardiac muscles:

There are involuntary intrinsically controlled, striated branched, and single nucleated.

2. Smooth Muscles :

Smooth muscles are usually activated involuntary. These fibres are stimulated by certain neurotransmitters, harmones, or autorythmic signals. Smooth muscles action potentials these membrane potential acts to initiate or modulate contraction. Smooth muscles consists of sheets or stands of smooth muscle cells. It has contractile proteins because of these cells generate force or shorten, also repair damaged tissue and also produce the energy to the musces.

Found In :

  • Walls of arteries and venis
  • Walls of hollow organs
  • Walls of airways to the lungs
  • Muscles that attach to hair follicles
  • Smooth Muscles which is adjust focus of the lenis in the eye.
  • Skin(arrector pili muscle that cause goosebumps).
  • Tracts in the reproductive, respiratory and urinary System.
  • Smooth muscles which are found in organs that are hollow such as the (intestines, bladder, uterus, and stomach)
  • Vessels (smooth muscle helps blood vessels constrict.
  • Eyes (iris contraction /dilation as well as the lens moments).

  • 3-10 µm thick and 20-200 µm
  • Shaped like a football/spindle.
  • Smooth muscle cells are surrounded and separated by a connective tissue layer called endomysium.
  • Endo= Within
  • Mysium=muscle
  • Smooth muscles has only one nucleus at the cell’s centre and it’s shape is cigar like structure.
  • Into the cytoplasm cell provides the pouch like invaginations which are functionality equivalent to the T-tubules of the skeletal musculature.

Functions :

  • The smooth muscles in the uterus helps women to push out her baby.
  • In the bladder, to push out urine.
  • Smooth muscle identify the flow of blood in the arteries.
  • Also helps to push food through the digestive track.
  • And regulates air flow in lungs.

Thank you…
